Karate Aerobic Test Software Ver.2.0 Help
About
The Karate Aerobic Test Software was created to help martial arts coaches monitor training programmes directed towards improving specific aerobic performance. This software applies the Karate Specific Aerobic Test, which is a valid and reliable test that can be used for assessing the aerobic fitness of karatekas [1, 2, 3]. The software uses audio and visual signals, and calculates all parameters from the test protocol, such as the number of exercises, cycle, total exercise and duration of the test. Additionally, you can manually input the heart rate (if you decide to use a heart rate monitor) of the athlete at the end of the test. All results can be saved in a text file (.txt) or pasted in Excel spreadsheets.
The KSAT test was developed by Nunan [4] for the aerobic assessment of competitive karate practitioners in a pilot study in 2006. The test consists of one of the most applied sequences in karate: straight punch and roundhouse kick combinations on a heavy punch bag with rest periods between the sequences. The time to complete one set (A - leading straight punch, B - rear leg roundhouse kick, C - rear straight punch, D - leading roundhouse kick) is set at 7 seconds. The progression in intensity during the Karate Specific Aerobic Test is based on the 20m beep test, and the aim is to progressively induce a maximal physiological response by reducing the recovery periods between exercise bouts [4]. The test has established to have an excellent absolute and relative reliabilities and to be suitable for the assessment of the aerobic fitness of karate practitioners [1].
TeamManager
In this section you can create and/or edit the list of the participants. The following characteristics are created for each athlete: number in the group, name, date of birth, gender, as well as height and weight. However, the last two parameters are not compulsory, but recommended, and the test can be performed without them. This data can be added directly using the software (by pressing the buttons Add, Edit, Delete), or it can be imported from Excel by using the button FromClipboard, but it has to be in the following format:

To change the name of the group, please click on 'Group Name' twice.
Choose the individuals you would like to test by clicking on the select button of each participant. When selected, it will be highlighted in green and will be included in the next test. Individuals who has already completed the test (Finished) are highlighted in orange.
TestControl
This section administers the Karate Specific Aerobic Test. Every phase of the test is marked through visual and sound signals. The following
information is shown for each individual after the completion of the test: number in their group, name, age, duration of the
test, level number, Exercise#, Cycle#, ExerciseTotal [s], and HR (real heart rate at the end
of the test, which is added manually by the tester, and is not compulsory,
but recommended). When an individual completes the test, the tester clicks on the 'Finish' button
by their name.
The test can be ended any time, or it finishes with the end of the last
participant. Then all of the data can be recorded in the Results section (by
clicking the Accept button) or can be discarded (by clicking the Discard
button).
Results
This section provides results from all administered tests with the Karate Aerobic Test Software for the relevant session. Results can be exported in a file or in the clipboard, and then they can be directly imported in Excel.
Settings
In this section you can test the signals of the test, as well as edit the signs and the signals. To save the changes press the SaveChanges button. To change the name of the test simply click on it twice.
