10m Beep Test Software Help (Version 3.0)

About

10m Beep Test Software administers a modification of the 20m Shuttle Run Test (10m test) in order to assess the aerobic fitness of children and adolescents. The original 20m test can be sometimes found under different names, such as 20mSRT, Multi-stage fitness test, PACER test, Beep test, Bleep test, etc. Nowadays, there are a few slightly different protocols of the test, which are described in the literature, but the Leger et al.’s original 1-minute protocol is recommended [1]. This software implements the original 1-minute protocol [2], which starts at a speed of 8.5 km/h, and increases by 0.5 km/h each minute. The 10m Beep Test Software calculates the predicted VO2max in individuals between the ages of 6 and 17, using the Leger et al.’s equation [3], and classifies them in accordance with comprehensive and an up-to-date set of gender-specific and age-specific international norms for children [4] and adolescents [5]. For more information about the software and how to conduct the test. please visit our website [6].

This software can be applied for health and fitness screening, profiling, monitoring and surveillance in schools and sports clubs.

TeamManager

In this section you can create and/or edit the list of the participants. The following characteristics are created for each child: number in the group, name, date of birth, gender, as well as height and weight. However, the last two parameters are not compulsory, but recommended, and the test can be performed without them. This data can be added directly using the software (by pressing the buttons Add, Edit, Delete), or it can be imported from Excel by using the button FromClipboard, but it has to be in the following format:

Group Name

To change the name of the group, please click on 'Group Name' twice.

Choose the individuals you would like to test by clicking on the select button of each participant. When selected, it will be highlighted in green and will be included in the next test. Individuals who has already completed the test (Finished) are highlighted in orange.

TestControl

This section administers the 10m Shuttle Run Test. Every stage and shuttle is marked through visual and sound signals. The following information is shown for each individual after the completion of the test: on which lane the child ran, number in their group, name, age, duration of the test, level number, shuttle number, distance, speed, VO2max, HR (real heart rate at the end of the test, which is added manually by the tester, and is not compulsory, but recommended), and percentile score in accordance with advanced gender- and age-specific international norms [4, 5].
When an individual completes the test, the tester clicks on the 'Finish' button by their name.
The test can be ended any time, or it finishes with the end of the last participant. Then all of the data can be recorded in the Results section (by clicking the Accept button) or can be discarded (by clicking the Discard button).

Results

This section provides results from all administered tests with the 10m Beep Test Software for the relevant session. Predicted VO2max is expressed by ml/kg/min. Percentile scores (PRs) and following scale are applied for practical use to classify children’s performance from the modified 20m Shuttle Run Test and observe those with a health risk: very poor (X < P10); poor (P10 ≤ X < P25); medium (P25 ≤ X < P75); good (P75 ≤ X < P90); and excellent (X ≥ P95) [4]. Results can be exported in a file or in the clipboard, and then they can be directly imported in Excel.

Settings

In this section you can test the signals of the test, as well as edit the signs and the signals. To save the changes press the SaveChanges button. To change the name of the test simply click on it twice. This section also provides a calculator of the VO2max.
